Ron was born in Columbus, Nebraska on January 31, 1952, son of Elden and Phyllis Delzer. The family moved to New Mexico in January 1962. Ron graduated from Mayfield High School in 1970. Attended New Mexico State University and after one semester joined the US Marines Corp. After attending communication school was assigned to Embassy Duty in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1972 and spent 11 days in Paris on special assignment for the signing of the Viet Nam Peace treaty Then was sent to Madrid, Spain from 1973 to 1975. After getting married and being Honorably Discharge in 1975. Returned to New Mexico State University for two years studying Electrical Engineering and transferred to Arizona State University in 1977. Where he joined the United States Marine Corps, Officer Candidate program 1977-1979. Completed Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA summer of 1977. Graduated with BS degree in Electrical Engineering and decided to leave the Officer’s program with a 2nd Honorable Discharge and pursued a Communication Engineering job with Continental Telephone Co. in Phoenix. Both children, Tricia and Ronnie were born in Phoenix Moved to Raleigh in November 1980 and took a job with Northern Telecom as a System Applications Engineer. Moved into Management in 1984 as Software Marketing Manager, then given the opportunity to be Manager of Software Operations and New Product Introduction. Left the Corporate world in 1991 and moved to Emerald Isle to spend more time with his family. Coached Babe Ruth Baseball and Soccer for 9 years. Refereed soccer for that same time. Divorced in 1996 and continued living on the coast.

In 2000 was invited to have a drink at the Morehead City/Beaufort Elks Lodge #1710 by the Leading Knight. After waiting for 3 months to become a member was asked to fill the Lecturing Knight position and went through the chairs and in 2004 was installed as Exalted Ruler for the first time. Was asked to stay in that Chair for another year as the Lodge moved to their current location in a new building. Received the Outstanding Service Commendation 2002-2003, Officer of the Year 2004-2005 as Exalted Ruler, Officer of the Year 2009-2010 as Lodge Trustee. Served as Exalted Ruler for 4 terms. Moved up into the State organization as Chairman of the Elks National Foundation in 2008 and still serving in that position. In 2009 was elected as Director in the Charitable Trust for 2 four year terms. Was installed as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 2009. Became the President of the PER Association in 2014 and President Elect of the North Carolina State Elks Association in 2017.

Has attended the past 14 Grand Lodge Conventions and 12 Leadership training seminars in Greensboro. Member of the Elks National Foundation (ENF) Fellowship since 2001and achieved $5,000.00 contribution award from ENF 2005-2006; and the $10,000 Silver level in 2011;

Currently the President & General Contractor for Delzer Construction Company, Inc. since 1996. Building Custom Homes on Emerald Isle. Met Lisa in 2008 and married her in 2011 in Key West. Is an avid Harley Davidson owner and motor cycle rider. Looking forward to retiring and living an easier life.
