State President 2024 – 2025

I would like to thank the members of the North Carolina Elks Association for providing me the opportunity to serve them as their 2024 – 2025 State President.  This is a true honor and assure you I will do my best to make the State Association an organization that we are all proud to be a member.

I relocated to Sanford, NC from New Jersey in 1997, shortly after becoming a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge #1679 in 2000.  I have been an officer since 2012.  I served as Exalted Ruler for two consecutive years from 2015-2017.  Board Chairperson 2015 – 2018; Trustee from 2017 – 2020; Sanford PER Association President 2018 – 2021; Sanford Lodge Treasurer 2021 to present,

At the district level, in 2017 – 2018 I was Vice President East Central District; in 2018 – 2019 Esquire to the District Deputy; District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the East Central District 2019 – 2020.

On the state level I served as the State Past Exalted Ruler Association President 2020 – 2021; State Elks Association State Lodge Activities Chairman 2017 – 2024; Grand Lodge Special Representative to the State Sponsor 2020-2022; North Carolina State Financial Reporting System Coordinator 2020 to present; and I am active on the Long-Range Planning Committee.

I’ve been married to my lovely wife Yenly for seventeen years and together we have 7 children and 6 great grandchildren.  I have been a Franchise Owner of Express Employment Professionals for 12 years serving the Sanford area.

In addition to the Elks, I have been active in my community for over 24 years.  I served on the Central Carolina Hospital Board of Directors 2004 – 2012, Chairman from 2005 – 2008; Active member of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Board of Directors 3 times, 2002- 2005, 2013 – 2015, 2019 to 2023, Chairperson 2021 – 2022; United Way of Lee County Board of Directors 2000 – 2008, 2013 – 2018, member of the Executive Committee 2013 – 2018; Lee County YMCA Board Member 2017 – 2023.

My wife Yenly and I are looking forward to the upcoming year and having the opportunity to visit many of the Lodges in North Carolina and meet more of our members.  We will also be representing the State Association in Austin at the Elks National Convention in July.

GRAND LODGE CONVENTION INFORMATION SHEET – 2024

The 2024 Grand Lodge Convention will be held in Austin, TX June 30 – July 3, 2024

The North Carolina delegation will be staying at the J W Marriott Austin Hotel, 110 E. 2^nd Street, Austin, TX  78701.  The J W Marriott Austin Hotel is one of the two Co-Headquarters hotels.  South Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, Indiana, New Mexico, Ohio, and West Virginia Elks and some Grand Lodge personnel are also scheduled to stay in this hotel.  

Room rate for Single, Double, Triple and Quad occupancy will be $135.00 per night plus tax, currently 17.61%. The rates will also apply to those who wish to stay three (3) days before and/or after the convention if requested on the reservation form and if rooms are available.  Late check outs will be determined by the hotel’s room availability for the following day and cannot be guaranteed at this time. If you would like a “late checkout” on Wednesday, July 3rd, please request it on the reservation form. King size beds are available but cannot be guaranteed.  Room reservations must be canceled 48 hours prior to arrival to avoid a cancelation fee.  Handicapped rooms are available and must be requested on the reservation form. This is a smoke free hotel.  Valet parking is available @ $59 per day.             Self-parking is also available, and the hotel has offered a 20% discount for Self-Parking. The hotel does not provide shuttle service between the Airport and the hotel. Uber/Lyft is the best option.  Amenities include Wi-Fi; a fitness center and a pool; Starbucks, the Edge Rooftop Bar, Dean’s Italian Steakhouse, Burger Bar on Congress and the Corner Restaurant.

District Deputy designates must submit a reservation form to me even though their room will be paid for by Grand Lodge.  ALL RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE STATE HOUSING CHAIRMAN (Michael Curran) AND ARE DUE NO LATER THAN MAY 24, 2023.

The Sunday Opening Ceremony and the Daily Business sessions will take place at the Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Chavez Street, Austin, TX  78701. The Opening Ceremony will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 30th.  The Business Sessions will begin at 8:00 AM and will end around noon on Monday & Tuesday and around 11:00 AM on Wednesday.  Registration, Ritual Competition and Exhibits will also be at the Austin Convention Center.  You must be registered to attend the Opening Ceremony, the daily Business Sessions and the Ritual Competition.

In order to improve assistance to handicapped members/guests at the convention and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, will those that need transportation and/or wheelchair assistance while attending the convention let me know ASAP so that I can pass that information on to Grand Lodge. Please include that information on your reservation form.

The State President will make available the location and operating hours of the North Carolina State Elks Association Hospitality Suite and where to send your donations.
