A Utah native, Shari was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 15th to Ben and Ellen Adams. The oldest of three sisters, Shari spent her childhood camping and enjoying the beautiful Wasatch mountains in Utah. Shari graduated from West Jordan High School and shortly after began working for American Express Company at their Travelers Check Operation Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shari worked in the Customer Service and Account Reconciliation departments. It was there that she met Phil Driscoll.
Shari and Phil were married in 1992 and have one beautiful daughter, Whitney. Shortly after getting married, Phil’s career moved them across the country to Jacksonville, Florida. Throughout the next eight years, Phil’s career would again move them to High Point, North Carolina, Chicago, Illinois, and finally back to High Point where they decided to stay. During this time, Shari worked for several different companies, including Ruff Hewn Clothing, where she assisted with creating new manufacturing manuals for the business. She also worked for over 15 years with Meridien Marketing during the bi-annual High Point Furniture Market as an International Sales Consultant. Shari also volunteered at the High Point Regional Hospital in the Emergency Room for over 10 years.
Phil joined the High Point Elks Lodge in May of 2001. Shari immediately became very involved with the Ladies Auxiliary, making fast friends and serving for two years as Treasurer and two years as President before joining the organization’s advisory board. It was at this time she realized that she could better support her Lodge by becoming a Member and learning more about the business of the Lodge. Shari was initiated on February 13, 2008 and was quickly elected as Lodge Secretary, a job she still holds. She became High Point’s first ever female Exalted Ruler in 2011 and worked her way through the West Central District positions to become District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 2015. She has received numerous Lodge awards and has attended 6 Grand Lodge Conventions.
Shari was elected North Carolina State Elks Association President – Elect in 2018 and was installed as North Carolina’s first ever female State President in May 2019.
In addition to Secretary, Shari is High Point’s volunteer Lodge Office Manager, and spends much of her time handling the daily operations of the business. In any spare time she gets she loves to travel, in particular to the Dominican Republic. Shari also enjoys crafting, faux finishing, and being creative in “Bay Three”, her workshop. Each year, Shari creates a special one of a kind piece of furniture and donates it to the annual Camp Carefree Gala’s silent auction.
Shari’s State Pin
My pin is in the shape of a Claddaugh. The claddaugh is a traditional Irish symbol which represent Love, Loyalty, and Friendship. I selected it as a tribute to my Irish husband Phil, as I could not be in this role without his love and support. It also represents how I feel about the Elks, and I believe it mirrors our virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity. The letters below my name on the back of the pin represents my personal motto – Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History!
